ICE RESCUE INSTRUCTOR TRAINING PROGRAM

                    Offered through First-In Training, LLC

WHAT:  "Train the Trainer" classes for Practical Ice Rescue NFPA Ice Rescue Technician

WHEN: January 27/28 and February 24/25 2024

WHERE: Hustisford, WI

Classes run Saturday 8:30 am through Sunday afternoon 4:00 pm

HOW MUCH: $800 per participant, covers all material - Breakfast and Lunch on Saturday, Breakfast and Lunch on Sunday

All equipment supplied including ice rescue suits

Lodging options:  Name brand hotel chains in Hartford, WI.  More lodging information available with registration materials.

The Trainer certification class is designed for 18 hours of instruction

Saturday                  Sessions 1 & 2    8:00 am - 6:30 pm

Sunday                    Sessions 3 & 4    8:00 am - 4:00 pm

Each trainer receives a copy of THE ICE RESCUE HANDBOOK as well as instructor manual and DVD

Session One:  We will be presenting the standard Practical Ice Rescue class.  The morning session is conducted in the classroom.  It covers the required NFPA Operations level knowledge.  We use archival videotapes to help analyze actual ice rescues.

 

Modules covered include: Overview of ice rescue - Ice and frigid water environment -Hypothermia - Emotional environment of rescue work - Equipment for ice rescue - Preplanning for ice rescue

After lunch, we go on-site to practice ice rescue skills.  These include the basic requirements for NFPA technician level (self rescue, Go rescue, specialty craft rescue) as well as advanced skills for multiple, unresponsive, trauma and submerged victims.  We use the RDC Rapid Deployment Craft extensively throughout the class.

This session ends in the classroom with one last videotape for critique and the wrap-up final exam.

Session Three:  Sunday morning we finish classroom discussion and view additional AV materials.  We do an equipment maintenance workshop.

Session Four:  Additional in water training for advanced ice rescue techniques and ice rescue suit comparisons.  Wrap up.

Follow-Up:  Each student will receive certificates for both the standard Technician and the Instructors' classes.  If there is a serious question about an individual's ability as an instructor, we will telephone the individual first and subsequently discuss our concerns with his/her department head.

Instructor Privileges:  Individuals who receive certification as instructors for the White Bear Practical Ice Rescue course may train their own or mutual aid departments.  Materials (manual, certificate, patch) can be purchased from White Bear Rescue Training Center.  Instructors must be covered by their own department's insurance umbrella.  Certification is good for three years.

Instructor Recertification: Recertification will be granted when the individual attends a Practical Ice Rescue class conducted by a White Bear Rescue Training Center instructor.  Recertification is good for three years.

Exceptions:  Instructors certified for the Practical Ice Rescue course are not employees of White Bear Rescue Training Center.  They are not protected for liability under the insurance umbrella of White Bear Rescue Training Center or First-In Training, LLC.
